The paintings from the series "Villégiatures" (Resorts) by the French artist Mickaël DOUCET present the interiors of contemporary villas that are temporarily without their inhabitants. Somewhat enigmatic objects left behind here and there, lead the viewer to a story from his own imagination. The juxtaposition of current images and fictional representations encourage the viewer to hide between the two. Thus the viewer is immersed, from both the narrative and the pictorial perspective, halfway between the past and the future. The pictorial harmony of each canvas reveals both contemporary phases with designer objects and historical settings with landscapes influenced by the Flemish painters. This strange perception accentuated through work on the perspective, the full and the empty magnified by swimming pools in an opposite way to David Hockney, strengthens the sense of alienation we feel in his art.

Les peintures de la série « Villégiatures » de l’artiste français Mickaël DOUCET présentent des intérieurs de villas contemporaines vidées temporairement de ses habitants. Des objets laissés pour compte ici et là, quelque peu énigmatiques, acheminent le spectateur vers une histoire extraite de sa propre imagination. Les juxtapositions d’images actuelles et de représentations fictives incitent le spectateur à se retrancher dans l’entre deux. Le spectateur est ainsi plongé à mi-chemin entre le passé et le futur tant au niveau narration qu’au niveau pictural. L’harmonie picturale de chaque toile révèle à la fois des phases contemporaines avec ses objets design et des phases anciennes au travers de ses paysages influencés par les peintres flamands. Cette perception étrange accentuée par le travail de la perspective, du plein et du vide magnifié par ses piscines à contre pied de David Hockney renforce le sentiment d’aliénation qu’on éprouve face à ses oeuvres.
